Lauro Lopes

Born in Rio de Janeiro, and graduated in music with a cello qualification by UNIRIO in the class of Hugo Pilger, having started his cello studies with professor Ronildo Cândido in the project Aprendiz-música na escola.

In 2010, 2011 and 2013 he was invited by Oslo Camerata to participate as a fellow of Valdres Sommersymfoni in Norway and has also participated in national festivals, among them the Curitiba Music Workshop (2011 and 2016), Campos International Winter Festival do Jordão (2014-2015-2017 and 2019) among others. He performed as a soloist with OSN (National Symphony Orchestra), OJN (Youth Orchestra of Niterói), UNIRIO Symphony Orchestra, UNIRIO Baroque Orchestra, Barra Mansa Symphony Orchestra and ESMAE Symphony Orchestra. In 2011 he was ranked first in his category at the Paulo Bosisio String Competition; in 2016 he was awarded an honorable mention in the 17th international competition in the city of Fundão, in Portugal; he was the winner of the 1st Young Talent Contest of the National Symphony Orchestra in 2017 and 1st in the Helena Sá e Costa Award, from ESMAE, in 2018. He was the first cello at OSBJ (Brazilian Youth Symphony Orchestra), Paquetá Youth Orchestra, CESGRANRIO Symphony Orchestra and Barra Mansa Symphony Orchestra.

He is currently finishing his master’s degree in Artistic Interpretation at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, in Porto and regularly cooperates with Portuguese orchestras and groups, such as the Classical Orchestra of the Center, the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, the Portuguese Opera Orchestra and the PortoCello quartet.
